Last Wednesday we posted the picture of Paul's proposal in front of Portumna Castle in Portumna, Ireland. We had rented a boat and spent a week cruising the River Shannon. All of the Wordless Wednesday posts for January will be photos from that trip.
We picked up our boat from Silver Line Cruisers in Banagher and the first day traveled north on the Shannon to Clonmacnoise. Clonmacnoise is a monastic settlement on the banks of the river that dates back to 546. We spent a very chilly night on the boat, moored to the dock just outside the site.
This was the view that greeted us from the deck of the boat the next morning. The mist rising off the water and the sun backlighting the celtic cross gravestones made a breathtaking scene.
