We kicked off our Sunday Open House series with, in our opinion, the most important room in the house, the kitchen. You gotta eat, folks. Really, the kitchen is the heart of almost every house.
But, where do we go from there? What rooms to showcase next? Well, the second most important rooms of a home – the bathrooms, of course. We say the second most important because, as much as it rains in Ireland, (and with neighbors in full view) we definitely don't want to have to make trips outside several times a day. We will do our best to refrain from bathroom humor for the rest of the post, but we aren't promising anything.
The Guest Bath
Immediately after entering the front door of the house, a guest bathroom is located on the left. While small, it is laid out and includes a full bathtub. One of our favorite features, and one that anyone planning on visiting us should like, is that it has a door that opens out into the hallway and then a second door that opens directly into the guest bedroom. Guests won't have to wander out into the hallway for the middle of the night bathroom visits.
In true Irish style, the bathroom has tile covering almost every surface. We aren't complaining. This cuts down on water damage and moisture issues. Luckily, we are fans of the color red. It is hard to see in the bathroom pictures, but there are gray markings in both the red and white tiles, so we will probably try working in some gray accessories to accent it.
The Master Bathroom
The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom that is a fairly good size. It currently only has one pedestal sink, but we plan to put remove it and put in a vanity with two sinks. New mirrors are also a must.
No, we aren't posting pictures of one bathroom from different angles. The bathrooms were both completed using the exact same style of tile, toilets, sinks, tubs, and fixtures. And, from the picture above, the same type of hand soap. The master bath is a good deal bigger than the guest bath, but that is the only difference. The upside is that this will make buying towels and other accessories a lot easier. Only one color scheme will mean just buying two of everything we like.
The glass panels on the tub fold out to reduce the water spray that hits the floor. We both think that it looks better than the full shower doors or the shower curtain. However, clear glass panels provides NO privacy for the person in the tub. The adjustable height shower heads are also very common in Ireland. We have rarely stayed anywhere that had the type of fixed shower head that we are used to in the United States.
Future Plans
We don't have any major plans for the bathrooms at this time. As we previously mentioned we do want to add a double vanity to the master bathroom. We will stay with adjustable shower heads, but we will install new ones, as the current ones have yellowed with age. We also intend to add larger, decorative mirrors.
Thanks for joining us on the tour. We will post updated pictures after our visit in February.
